2011: A Year In Review

Looking back on these last 12 months, I’m astounded by how far my site has come along.

On September 9 of this year, Garden Betty celebrated its first anniversary. We’re well past that, and still going strong!

I’ve uploaded 148 posts and 1,145 images (149 and 1,147 by the time tomorrow’s post — and the final one of the year — goes online).

I’ve shared many an adventure in both my travels and my gardens, from ringing in Año Nuevo in Baja to celebrating my birthday in the John Muir Wilderness… showing you how to start seeds in newspaper pots and even cracked eggshells to just starting seeds, period (and how to save them later)… transplanting precious tomato seedlings for stronger root systems to taming the Amazon jungle that started as volunteer tomatoes.

I’ve shared the process of building my tiki coop from start to finish (and if you had told me a year ago I’d have chickens in my backyard, I would’ve laughed).

I’ve brought you into my kitchen to put all those garden harvests to delicious use, from layering and pressing my namesake panini to pickling 55 pounds of green cherry tomatoes.

And the highlight of the year was winning Country Living magazine’s Blue Ribbon Blogger Award for best gardening blog — a blog that would not have gone that far without my rad readers. Readers like you!

Below are a few of my — and your — favorite posts from 2011.

I loved learning, growing, and discovering every day of 2011 and having you share in my personal journey. I hope you’ll be here with me in 2012 for more adventures from Garden Betty.

Wishing you the happiest and brightest of New Years!
