Welcome to the weekend, friends! As you’re reading this, I’m on my way to El Salvador for the next seven days, working on my tan, riding warm-water waves, and drinking cheap beer like it’s going out of style.

I’m also going to try to get out of my own head for a bit, give myself a break from cooking and a liiiittle break from the book, though it’s a great feeling knowing that the finish line is finally within sight. (One more month until my manuscript is due! But I think the real work really begins after that.)

What I love about these tropical getaways is how you can pack so much yet pack so little. Everything I need for my first day or two fits neatly inside my stylie new silver Klettersack: a breezy tank and my favorite pair of cutoffs, a Mara Hoffman rashguardGone Surfin' 1 for surfing, bikinis and homemade sunscreen, a Turkish pestemalGone Surfin' 2 (my favorite kind of beach towel — so light and quick-drying), and an outfit for going out at night. My new OM-D E-M1Gone Surfin' 3 camera arrived just in time for me to bring on this trip, so I’ll be passing time on the flight fidgeting with all the settings! So far, I’m loving it.
