Third-Party Content

Garden Betty does not accept guest contributors, guest posts, or sponsored posts written by third parties.

Direct Advertising

Garden Betty accepts direct advertising in the form of paid advertisements, monetary sponsorships, and product/service sponsorships on our website and in our email newsletters.

Any gifted and/or sponsored products or services are clearly marked with a disclosure in the post, and any opinions expressed in the post are solely arbitrary and never influenced by the compensation received. Our positive opinions cannot be bought.

Online Behavioral Advertising

Garden Betty uses third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our website. These companies may use aggregated information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices about not having this information used by these companies, please see NAI’s Consumer Opt-Out.

Garden Betty is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to and its affiliated sites.

We also participate in the RewardStyle, AvantLink, and Share-A-Sale programs and receive a commission on sales of products that are linked in our posts. This does not affect our decisions on the type of content to feature day to day. We only provide links to products that we personally use and believe have value to our readers, regardless of our affiliate relationships.

I. Cookies and IP Address Tracking

Garden Betty uses “cookies,” which are text files placed on your computer, to uniquely identify users for post comments and server log files. No personal information is stored in these cookies and they are used only to identify a user’s computer for the purposes of facilitating comments and preventing hacking attempts.

II. User Comments

Garden Betty uses a third-party commenting system provided by Disqus, Inc., 717 Market Street, Suite 700, San Francisco, CA 94103 (“Disqus”), to manage comment posting and comment moderation on our website. Mad Mimi collects email addresses from our readers when they elect to subscribe to email delivery from our website. The collection of our readers’ email addresses is voluntary and requires a double opt-in to our email subscription requests.

Readers may unsubscribe at any time by clicking on the “Unsubscribe” link located at the bottom of every email delivered. We do not, and will not, sell or rent our email lists to third parties. View Mad Mimi’s privacy policy for information on how they store and handle your data.

IV. Videos

Garden Betty has embedded videos that are hosted by Vimeo LLC, 555 West 18th Street, New York, New York 10011 (“Vimeo”). If you access a page on our website that includes a video, your browser sets up a direct connection to Vimeo’s servers. Therefore, Vimeo receives the information that you and your IP address have accessed our website. Additional information on the data processing by Vimeo is available under their privacy policy.

V. Data Protection

Garden Betty has implemented measures designed to secure your email address and other personal information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure. All information you provide to us through contact forms and email subscription boxes are transmitted using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption technology.

Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the Internet is not 100 percent secure. Although we do our best to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of your personal information transmitted to our website. Any transmission of personal information is at your own risk.

VI. Third-Party Use of Tracking Technologies

Some third parties may use cookies alone or in conjunction with web beacons or other tracking technologies to collect information about you when you use our website. The information they collect may be associated with your personal information or they may collect information, including personal information, about your online activities over time and across different websites and other online services. They may use this information to provide you with interest-based (behavioral) advertising or other targeted content.

We do not control these third parties’ tracking technologies or how they may be used. If you have any questions about an advertisement or other targeted content, you should contact the responsible provider directly. To learn more about your choices about not having your information used by these third parties, please see NAI’s Consumer Opt-Out.

Google Analytics

In order to optimize our website, we use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043 (“Google”). Google Analytics uses “cookies,” which are text files placed on your computer, to help the website analyze how you use this website. The information generated by the cookie about your use of this website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States.

We automatically enable IP anonymization on our website so that your IP address will be truncated by Google within the EU member states or EEA member states to prevent users from being identified. Only in exceptional cases will the IP address be transferred to Google on a server in the United States and thereafter be truncated.

On behalf of Garden Betty, Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of our website, compiling reports on website activity, and providing other services relating to website activity and Internet usage. The IP address that was transmitted by your browser will not be combined by Google with any other data. You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser; however, please note that if you do this, you may not be able to use the full functionality of our website.

You may also prevent the collection and processing of the data that was generated by the cookie (and that is related to the use of our website, including your IP address) by downloading and installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
